Cannabis is the most commonly used illegal drug in Australia. It is made from the dried flowers and leaves of a plant called Cannabis Sativa which grows wild in many tropical and temperate areas of the world. It is used in three main forms: marijuana, hashish and hash oil.
Marijuana is the least potent of all the cannabis products and is usually smoked. It can look like dried herbs or tea and sometimes contains seeds or twigs. It can be grey, green or brown in colour. Marijuana is usually smoked in hand-rolled cigarettes called joints or in water pipes called bongs.
Hashish is made from the resin (secreted gum) of the cannabis plant. It is dried and pressed into small blocks and smoked. It is also sometimes mixed with food, such as cakes and cookies, and eaten.
Hash oil is the most potent cannabis product. It is a thick oil obtained from hashish. It is also smoked.
